Karen began working at Trexler Middle School on January 2nd, 2002. She was given a desk in a loft across from another 6th grade teacher that just happened to be, if you haven't already guessed, Mike Dopera. (Can you see where this is going?)
As time passed, Mike started asking Karen out and his perseverence (read: ability to ignore the word "no" better than the most stubborn toddler) was eventually rewarded with a date or two of the "I hope I make it home alive" variety. After Karen learned that Mike not only was capable but actually liked to cook, she figured it was worth the risk.
From comedy-shows gone awry to "competitive" miniature golf, their love "bloomed". (Karen's word, not mine. In fact, it makes me a bit nauseous to think of those two with such Disney-like imagery.)
On December 24th, 2004, Mike proposed with some creative sign work while jogging in the Lehigh Parkway. (I don't know exactly what happened but I think it was dark and she thought the sign said "do you want a bottle of water?" or something like that.) Nevertheless, "yes" was heard and a wedding was planned.
By April, Karen and Mike purchased a house together in Cetronia and pursued an addition to their happy little home in the form of a furry, four-legged companion. Sully final arrived in August of 2005 and continues to keep them busy.
On June 10th, 2006 they were married. Details of the wedding can be found below.
Karen's bridal gown and attendants' gowns were purchased at Bridals by Sandra in Nazareth, PA. The men's tuxedo's were rented from After Hours Formalwear of Allentown, PA.
The rehearsal dinner was held at the Federal Grill on Hamilton St. in Allentown, PA. Guests had the choice of a pork tenderloin, jumbo lump crap, country style rigatoni or chicken entree.
The wedding ceremony was held Saturday, June 10th, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at St. John's UCC on 6th and Walnut St. in Allentown, PA. The order of service and participants are found on the bulletin pages appearing at the top of this page.
A reception followed the ceremony at the Green Pond Country Club on 3604 Farmersville Rd., Bethlehem, PA 18020.
